Some of you may be familiar with my craigslist post about the Cuddler. If not, please stop reading and jump over to this thread real quick for a read. Anyways, shortly after that post was taken down I received a strange e-mail from a "Margaret Young". See below for the body of the e-mail:

"Hello,
I saw your profile and decided to write to you, since I am moving to your area
in a couple of weeks. I am looking for a guide and a good man to spend my time
with and show me around and who knows, we might click.
There are many fake posts on this site, so hopefully yours is real.
You need to reply to (EDITED)@gmail.com as I am writting from a public email account
I am going to send some pics in reply, not some links to join some sites."

OK...So, i'm inclined to think exactly what she doesn't want me to think (as that's how it goes when you go out of your way to tell me you aren't scamming me) but hey, i'm bored, she's not from nigeria, so...fuck it...I respond:

"Hi. Forgive me for being suspicious but I don't have a profile on Craigslist and your e-mail was very generic in the details. What area are you moving to exactly? What is your name? I am even wondering if perhaps a friend posted a personal Ad with my e-mail...Hm. Hopefully this isn't a scam to get my actual e-mail address because I do have posts related to my web series and other items that may have led you here. Ah well, nothing ventured - nothing gained. Get back to me with some pics and details about yourself if in fact you are genuine.

I tried to sound friendly but not stupidly convinced. A week or two go by and i'm now 100% positive it's a scam, instead of 99.9% I eventually forget all about it until today:

WOW! A real Russian bride who is just looking for love and is so excited to meet me! Now, this is REALLY convincing...But still being a bit skeptical (you must be thinking, WHY? She's so quirky and genuinely bad at English!!) i trace the e-mail address...Turns out my Russian Bride is sitting behind a computer in Sunnyvale, CA. Awwww nuts! There goes another movie fantasy (see also: "Birthday Girl").

Now, my best guess is that the scammer probably plans on stringing me along for awhile, making romantic/destiny-related conversation about how we are perfect and i'm so handsome and ect. up until the point she's about to leave for the US, in which case she'll need some money. Who knows, it could go a million ways. And you know what...i'm going to play along. I want to see how much this person will put into their faux romance with me:

well, it definitely looks like it has potential. let's see her pictures? also, i agree with brkn, how the eff did you trace an email address. . . esp. a gmail addy. you DO know that google is headquartered close to Sunnyvale, right?

the e-mail she wrote back from was actually a yahoo account which was not at all the email she had me first reply to. it's most definitely a scam my friend...you'll see it truly in the pictures.

EDIT: The trace was just by typing it into Yahoo, it came back with an option to trace. Even gave me the IP address.

Got the uploads, I couldn't do it at work in case the files were viruses or something harmful.

As i read it i felt a few mixed feelings...what if this IS real? You see, the e-mails are forwarded to me each time and i'm now having a few theories...What i wrote in my last letter to her about my good friend and his Russian gf was exactly true. She came with a few other girls as well to work in the state, first she was in MD then moved to NYC. She worked 2 jobs, an amusement park and as a waitress...pretty amazing coincidence eh? Anyway, what its possible the mail is routed through an agency in CA...it's possible this is a real girl with a real sad life. I began to feel shitty about it, because after all if it turned out to be true and i string along some poor girl then i'm coming out of this as a pretty big asshole and will undoubtedly have karma kick me in the ass for it. But i still feel that's an incredibly small probability and there are so many holes in my theory. She said it was her private mailbox, so, if it was true she'd be lying and why would the agency want her to do that? I need to talk to my friend or his ex to find out how it all worked with her. But in the mean time...

It's good to hear that you take care of yourself. I too regularly exercise and am in good shape. I weigh 68 kg and am about 179 cm tall. I'm not very muscular and I don't ever plan on becoming a muscle bound type but I am working on a more athletic physique so that i'm cut and toned. I don't smoke. I do drink alcohol but only to relax and although i have gotten quite drunk it's not out of habit and it doesn't change my personality. Wanting to leave Russia to better yourself is not ugly. I admire you for being able to see that you do have great potential and that you want to explore it. It takes a lot of courage to be able to leave your family and friends for a foreign land.

That's great that you already have a certificate to be a fitness trainer, there are a lot of opportunities to put that to use in the US. It's kind of ironic that there are so many gyms around and so much of us are obsessed with going to one yet our country has the highest obesity in the world.

Don't worry about your mother and her plans for you. I'm sure she just loves you very much and like you said she just wants you to be happy. She may not understand your desire to leave yet but eventually she will and she will give you her support.

So I can't believe you are going to be traveling to Moscow in just a few days! Will you depart for the US by the end of the month? I'm surprised the agency isn't preparing your trip a little more. When exactly do you leave for Moscow and when will you leave for the US? As I said before I live in philadelphia so the closest International airport would be PHL, the Philadelphia International Airport.

You asked me in your last letter for some more of my likes and dislikes so here is a short list with examples of both.
Likes: Music, books, writing, movies, tea, swimming, drawing, laughing, loving, beaches, nature, sunsets, art, chicken quesadillas, photography.

or maybe you didn't read the part where i never said it was real...you misunderstood me throwing theories in my head around and saying how shitty of a person i would be if it was. but, again, obviously it's not so that is why i continue to write to her. BTW - i got another letter already. I'll have to read it and reply after work.

OK so I've been really busy the last few days with Willie working on the show and "Anastasiya" has been writing like crazy. (We are really excited about the next 2 episodes BTW - really coming together nicely) So finally today I've decided to catch up during my day job. First i'll post her 3 letters from my inactivity, then at the bottom you'll see my reply. Such a great city it is. I have no words to explain. you can't imagine how great Moscow is,to be fair I wouldn't like to
live here,a lot of cars,people , voice and pollution.Ugly traffic and people with crazy eyes.
When I get off plane in airport Moscow policeman asked about passport and he looked at me like I am any enemy,
I think all people here are a little crazy at terrorism.Life here in Moscow is expensive. I was going through some shops today
and it is much more expensive than in our town. Food and all the general things. It is the same country but different prices, what a great change.
I think people living in Moscow are very cautious ,I think so. But I think that I have done my choice and to be fair I don't want to
live here,it is not the city of my dreams. you know I am not coward I am not afraid I know it is my chance to meet

Wow...Regardless of the reassuring mission statement of the travel agency ""Irkutsk Baikal Inter Tours" is a licensed and officially registered travel agency." I chose to look it up anyway, just for fun. Of course it doesn't exist but hey, that's a pretty serious assurance and well shoot maybe they do exist and my Google is broken! I don't have to tell you that it's pretty interesting all her monetary figures are in USD...that's also a bit off but then I read the letter and she had some really convincing points and she even included her passport! .
So i decided to write back to her. Something tells me this will be the last e-mail:

"Dear Anastasiya,

I am so sorry it's taken me so long to write back. I have been very busy lately and I just finally got all caught up! I have been thinking about you every night and even having some really interesting dreams involving the two of us

I read all your travel information and please don't think I don't trust you or anything like that but I wanted to find out more about Travel Agency Irkutsk Baikal Inter Tours so I looked them up and I could not find any information on them. Are you sure your travel agency is a legitimate one? I don't want them to take advantage of you! Also, why didn't they provide a full itinerary for you? How are you supposed to know what time the flight departs or what Airline it's on? I am worried that this Travel Agency is not being honest with you and they will do something to hurt my future love! Please be careful in dealing with these people and try to find out more information on them before you give them any of your money!

Your last letter was so exciting, i can't believe you got me a gift, you are so sweet. This is my response to SCAMMERS, and I strongly believe in shutting them down before they do any ham or damage. If the FBI CIA lets this fall thru the cracks, we have at least tried.

I BELIEVE YOU NEED T RETHINK THIS STUFF, I have notified the FBI and CIA as part of the Cyber Crimes section of the Patriot Act on Terrorism. They are going to pick you up shortly, If this is really you then you need to find a lawyer very quickly, as they have been asked to send you to the Guantánamo Cuba Location to remain until the Military courts decide what they want to do with you.......

Well Paulfila, I certainly wouldn't want any Ham to come to me but in all honestly they can't get what you don't give to them. I think it's safe to say that most are almost completely harmless to any person with a basic level of intelligence. I did research the reporting of this type of thing back when this was still going on but I really didn't see the point. The last thing I want to do is contact a watchdog agency and get on their list, even if it is as the one filing the complaint. I'd rather no association at all. Besides it's much more fun to get them to build up what they believe to be a potential mark. Well, it got boring pretty fast for me but it was far more entertaining than filing electronic paperwork with the government. Plus it was my discovery that even some of THOSE sites were likely to be scams as some asked for SS#'s and other such information that has nothing to do with reporting an e-mail scammer. Alas, as long as there is such a thing as the internet we will have scammers. Heck, even without it we had them via the USPS and phone calls. But if you really want to know more about it then send me your SS#, bank account#, current address, mother's maiden, favorite pet, best kiss and a salami sandwich and I'll mail you a great kit on fraud protection built specifically around your credit!
